Coverage
HRMesh Coverage Map
This map shows where HRMesh nodes have been heard across Hampton Roads. It is built from live node reports, community mapping, and wardriving data collected by volunteers.
Wardriving
Help map real-world coverage
Wardriving means collecting HRMesh signal and node data while moving through the region. A phone, vehicle, bike, or even a walk through your neighborhood can help show where the mesh is reachable.
Each mapping run helps us understand where coverage is strong, where nodes are barely reachable, and where new repeaters would make the biggest difference.
Why it matters
The map only improves when people contribute
The embedded map is not a fixed prediction. It is a living picture of the network based on received signals, active nodes, and reported paths. If nobody maps an area, that area may look empty even if coverage exists.
More wardriving gives HRMesh better data for repeater placement, antenna planning, and community expansion.
How to contribute
Three ways to help expand the coverage map
Run a mobile node
Carry or drive with a MeshCore node so it can hear nearby HRMesh stations while you move through Hampton Roads.
Map your normal routes
Commutes, errands, club meetings, parks, marinas, and public events are all useful. Repeated trips help confirm reliable coverage.
Share weak spots
If you find areas with poor or missing coverage, let us know. Those locations help guide future repeater and node installs.
Useful places to map
- Neighborhoods
- Highways and bridges
- Parks and public areas
- Waterfront locations
- Club meeting sites
- Emergency shelter areas
Useful data to report
- Where coverage was strong
- Where nodes disappeared
- Mobile or fixed antenna used
- Approximate route or area
- Date and time of test
- Any unusual conditions
Best ways to improve coverage
- Host an elevated repeater
- Use an outdoor antenna
- Place nodes near coverage gaps
- Map from multiple directions
- Test before and after changes
- Share results with HRMesh
Build the network
Want to help expand HRMesh coverage?
Hosting a repeater node is the fastest way to improve coverage in your neighborhood. Wardriving helps us find the gaps. New fixed nodes help fill them.
